Meet the New Director!
The Maskers are thrilled to welcome Mr. Scott Warfel to our program! Mr. Warfel, our new director and drama teacher, has had a lot of experience in the theater. Mr. Warfel has worked as a professional actor, director, musical director, producer, and composer/lyricist. Mr. Warfel was co-founder and Executive Producer of First Stage Theatre. First Stage adapted literary classics to the stage, and produced over 100 shows (10-12 a year!) during its run. The theatre company was recognized by the Governor of Pennsylvania for its commitment to literacy and the promotion of reading. Mr. Warfel was also named a Pennsylvania Fellow of the Arts, the first composer/lyricist to receive the honor. His show A Connecticut Yankee... played at the Judith Anderson Theater in NYC. Mr. Warfel then turned to education. At the various schools that he has taught at, he has produced many plays and musicals, including Evita, The Fantasticks, The Foreigner, The Exonerated, Art, Godspell, Joseph..., and Charlie Brown. He also created the original productions Civil Voices, Verse, and Just Words for student actors. He also set up Nights on Broadway productions, which provided his students an opportunity to perform with Broadway talent such as Andrea Burns, Cary Shields, and Teal Wicks. The Maskers can't wait to see where his expertise will take us!
